Research Dossier — 1957 Bentley Continental S1 Fastback
Overview. The S1 Continental refined high-speed touring with a lightweight coachbuilt body by H.J. Mulliner on Bentley’s S-series chassis. The hallmark fastback roof and clean flanks give a poised, aerodynamic look while retaining the upright Bentley matrix grille.
Signature cues. Long bonnet, rounded front wings with inset lamps and auxiliary fogs, matrix grille with winged “B”, thin bumper over-riders, smooth sides with delicate chrome strip, modest rear fins tapering into a low boot, and optional flush rear wheel spats.
Cabin. Connolly leather seating, rich walnut veneers and folding rear picnic tables; many cars carried radios and discreet air-vent controls on the fascia.
