Research Dossier — 1910 Oakland Model 40 Roadster
Overview. Early Oakland roadsters embodied the brass-era transition from horseless carriages to true sporting motorcars. A stout ladder frame carried a torpedo-style body with exposed controls, artillery wheels and abundant brass fittings.
Signature cues. Square brass radiator and cap; acetylene/electric lamps on stalks; long shallow bonnet; open tufted bench; monocle or folding windshield; wood tool box and stacked spares at the rear; semi-elliptic leaf springs and visible linkages.
Cabin & controls. Wood-rim wheel, hand throttle/spark levers, outside handbrake, step plates and rubber mats; magneto and fuel controls mounted on the dash/cowl.
