Research Dossier — 1906 Pungs-Finch Limited Touring
Maker. The Pungs-Finch Auto & Gas Engine Co. of Detroit, Michigan, built automobiles and marine engines in the mid-1900s era. Surviving records and auction catalogs show very limited production and few extant cars.
Model. The “Limited” Touring was a premium, brass-era open tourer with prominent polished-brass radiator and lamps, separate sweeping wings, and wood-artillery wheels. Surviving examples show black over deep maroon or green bodies with natural-wood tool boxes.
Mechanical layout (typical period spec). Large-displacement four-cylinder (often T-head on comparable Pungs-Finch/period models), rear-wheel drive, multi-speed manual gearbox with external shift and hand brake. Leaf-spring suspension and mechanical brakes.
Design hallmarks to capture. Octagonal/boxed brass radiator shell with script, big acetylene headlamps plus kerosene cowl lamps, bulb horn on the column, tufted leather benches (front & tonneau), outside gear lever/hand brake, tall artillery wheels with slim tyres, and sweeping coach-style mudguards. The car often exhibits two-tone paint (black wings over colored body) with red wheels.
Notes are conservative where documentation varies by chassis; the generator emphasizes photographic evidence and period-correct detailing for a museum-quality clone.
