A good lost item search starts with order. Random walking feels faster, but it often leaves gaps. A numbered grid helps you cover the area with less guessing.

Start at the Last Known Spot

Begin where the item was last seen or most likely dropped. Then work outward in a controlled route. This keeps the search focused before the area gets too large.

Did you know? Rings often leave the hand during glove removal, towel shaking, yard work, sports, or water activity. The best search usually starts near the action, then expands.

Pick the Right Pattern

Use a lane sweep for yards and fields. Use a spiral when the drop point is known. Use a fan pattern when something may have been thrown. Use a shoreline pattern near water or sand.

Search Slowly

Keep the detector coil level. Overlap each sweep. Mark every finished section before moving on. Slow, boring searches often find what fast searches miss.
