Research Dossier (Reference Targets)

Data baked-in

Use this dossier to keep the LEGO model’s silhouette and proportions honest. This generator forces LEGO-legal geometry and Studio validation (no intersections, no floating, no stressed connections).

  • Porsche 917 program (introduced 1969): exploit FIA 5-litre sports-car rules; 25 cars for homologation; evolved rapidly from early instability to dominance.
  • Core engine family: air-cooled flat-12 (Type 912) began around 4.5L; later enlarged; later Can-Am variants used turbocharging.
  • Can-Am context: 917/10 (1972) and 917/30 (1973) open Spyders; 917/30 commonly cited around 5.374L and ~1,100 hp (race trim) as a reference for “Spyder-inspired” cooling/aero cues.
  • LEGO translation targets: ultra-low nose, wide track, cockpit forward, mid-engine deck, tail aero (short-tail vs long-tail vs Spyder deck).

Reference image note:

If you want the photo embedded as true offline reference, paste your base64 image into an <img src="data:image/png;base64,..."> tag here. (Keeping this page lightweight by default.)

Primary sources to cite in your final PDF (recommended):

  1. Porsche Newsroom history pages on the 917 program and Can-Am 917 variants
  2. Petersen Automotive Museum features/spec notes for the 917/30
  3. Factory archive photography sets (front/side/rear/top) for proportion QA
