Research Dossier — 1959 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer (2-Door Hardtop)
Context. The 1959 Custom Royal Lancer was Dodge’s top Swept-Wing model during the height of Exner’s “Forward Look.” It combined dramatic quad headlamps and a busy egg-crate grille with long side spears and tall, razor-edge fins carrying stacked round tail-lamps. Push-button TorqueFlite automatics, swivel seats and dual rear antennas were hallmark options. The D-500 package added a hotter big-block and chassis upgrades.
Powertrain & chassis (period typical). Big-block wedge-head V8s with single or dual-quad options (D-500), push-button TorqueFlite automatic or 3-speed manual; rear-wheel drive; front coils/unequal A-arms, live rear axle with leaf springs; large drum brakes.
Design signatures to capture. Deep hooded quad headlamps over a complex grille, tapering side spear with contrasting insert, forward-canted tailfins ending in stacked “rocket” lamps, heavy chrome bumpers with guards, and a wide wraparound windshield. Interiors feature Astra-Dome-style instruments, push-button selectors and optional swivel seats.
Choose trim, size, colors and options, then click Generate. Emphasize crisp spear lines, thin chrome ribbons, and accurate fin/tail-lamp geometry over a rigid internal spine for a display-grade finish.
