Research Dossier — Studebaker Golden Hawk (1958)

Context. The ’58 Golden Hawk was Studebaker’s flagship hardtop, pairing Raymond Loewy’s sharp fins and coves with a factory Paxton-supercharged V8. The squared hood bulge, fine-mesh grille and spear-accented fins separate it from earlier Hawks.

Design signatures. Rectangular hood scoop, egg-crate/mesh grille with hawk emblem, chrome beltline spear sweeping into fin coves with vertical vents, tidy round tail lamps, wrap-around rear glass and two-tone roof/cove treatments.

Cabin. Vinyl two-tone trim, ribbed pleats, bright gauge cluster, optional supercharger instrumentation and radio/clock set. Bench or bucket-style fronts appear on restored cars.
