Museum labelResearch Dossier — 1946 Oldsmobile 76 Dynamic Cruiser Club Sedan
Postwar Return & Model Position
After wartime production, Oldsmobile’s mid-range B-body returned in 1946 as the Dynamic Cruiser Series 76 and 78. The 76 carried the 238 cu in L-head straight-six, while the 78 used a straight-eight on the same chassis. The 2-door fastback Club Sedan shared its basic body with Cadillac and Buick B-body cousins but wore distinct Oldsmobile trim and grille work.
Dimensions & Road Presence
On a 125-inch wheelbase and around 214 inches long, the 76 Club Sedan was a big car even by late-1940s standards. The long front fenders, tucked-in rear fenders and sweeping fastback roof gave it a “rolling streamliner” look that photographs especially well in three-quarter views. In LEGO the proportions translate to a long hood, set-back cabin and generous rear overhang.
Straight-Six Power & Hydra-Matic
The 238 six delivered around 100 horsepower through either a three-speed synchromesh manual or Oldsmobile’s pioneering Hydra-Matic automatic. For a LEGO clone you only need to hint at the long inline block under the hood and the column shifter in the cabin, but those cues make the difference between a generic sedan and a recognizable Dynamic 76.
Interior & Trim
Inside, the 76 offered broad bench seats, cloth or Bedford cord upholstery and a wide, woodgrained dashboard with grouped instruments and radio. Details like chrome spears on the fenders, hood ornament and “Dynamic Cruiser” script along the beltline are important to reference in sticker or tile form on the LEGO version.
Modeling Priorities for a LEGO Clone
- Preserve the long-hood, short-deck fastback profile with a smooth, continuous roof from windshield to tail.
- Use layered plates and curved slopes to suggest the front fender crowns and rear fender skirts without breaking legal geometry.
- Build a strong Technic ladder frame under the floor so the model can be lifted by the roof or bumpers without sagging.
- Reserve bright chrome-like elements for the grille, beltline and bumpers so they pop against the body color.
